As a child, she was fat & rather unattractive. She attended Hiratsuka P.S.7 & moved in next door to Eikichi when the Oni-baku switched to Hiratsuka P.S.7 in 8th grade. There were rumours that she secretly liked Eikichi. She was often picked on for her bleached hair $ took down all the 8th graders that were after her, even putting one in hospital. However, she was involved in a fight with some girls who were part of a Yokohama gang & Eikichi saved her. Hugging Eikichi, she revealed how scared she was & that was the first time they saw her cry. Acting tough was her way of getting closer to Eikichi. Eikichi gives her a keychain with the words "summon Eikichi" engraved on it & tells her to call out his name whenever she needs help. She later joins the Hiratsuka Idaten Gang (Ladies' Division) & caught the eye of its 3rd generation leader, Takezawa Akira, who asked her to be his girlfriend. Takezawa took her virginity & made it clear that she was his property. She initially loved Takezawa & followed him everywhere but started to increase her absence in the Idaten gang rallies. Takezawa stopped seeing her for awhile when he found out that she liked someone from Tsujido. She arrives at Tsujido looking for Eikichi as a beautiful young woman 3 years since seeing him & gets allocated into the delinquent homeroom class, 1-F, with the Oni-baku. She catches the attention of the 1st years, who goes after her, including Saegusa of the K. T. Butai. She gains notoriety for beating up some girls in 2rd year after they harass her & her involvement with the Idaten gang. Eikichi initially does not recognise her but realises upon seeing her keychain. Although she still likes Eikichi, her feelings were not returned as despite Eikichi being attracted to her, he saw her as not ladylike. Her boyfriend, Takezawa returns & confronts Eikichi, who reassures Takezawa that he always saw Shinomi as his little sister. Despite being heartbroken, Shinomi leaves the Idaten gang because nothing matters if she can't have Eikichi, despite knowing the consequences, which involves all the Idaten gang members raping her. She approaches Eikichi & reveals that she quit the Idaten gang to be the nice kind of girl that he likes, but Eikichi still calls her his kid sister. She angrily runs off whilst Takezawa wacthes from the shadows. She is later found unconscious lying in the rain by Takezawa & taken to hospital, where she gets diagnosed with pneumonia. She wakes up to find herself tied up & is shocked to discover that Takezawa has ordered her punishment to go ahead. As the Idaten gang members start lining up, Eikichi arrives to save her. Takezawa stops his gang from attacking Eikichi & challenges Eikichi to a fight, agreeing to let Shinomi go if Eikichi wins. She begs them to stop & Takezawa holds a knife towards Shinomi. He tells Eikichi to stay back & apologises to everyone for causing trouble. He tells everyone that he will settle it with himself, stating he was too soft to be the Idaten's leader. He remember's Eikichi's words on how a real man takes care of his own woman & stabs himself in the stomach, declaring that this is how he will settle it. With his last breath, Takezawa tells Eikichi to take care of Shinomi & that even though she appears tough, she is a cry-baby on the inside. A shocked Shinomi asks him why did he stab himself as she was certain the knife was for her & Eikichi chides her, telling her that this was the only way he could save her, that he had planned it from the very beginning & that was how much he liked her. Shinomi remembers the first time she was approached by Takezawa, who tells her that he really liked her & would do anything for her. Shinomi falls to her knees & starts to cry.
She stays by Takezawa's side as he revovers. She arrives at the hospital one morning to find Takezawa gone, leaving a note telling her to get serious with her life. She cries & asks herself why every guy she meets has to be so damn good. She dyes her hair blonde & becomes determined make Eikichi notice her. She still keeps the keychain but the engraved words are scratched out. She befriends the Oni-baku Gumi & appears at their various gatherings, becoming good friends with Nagise Nagisa & often helping her with her troubles. Despite Eikichi's numerous attempts to sleep with her, the two of them are reluctant to become serious, as Eikichi still sees her as a sister & her being stubborn. During the Midnight Angel arc, she knocks some sense into Eikichi & tells him to go help Ryuji. She defends Ryuji when the police suspect him of burning Kamishima. She helps Nagisa & Ryuji paint their bus & becomes jealous of Kamata Kaoru when she visits, going as far as trying to confirm Kaoru's gender. After Natsu's death, she tries to cheer up Eikichi who blames himself for the death & kisses him. She tells him that winning or losing doesn't matter but they need someone to stop their fights. She tells him that she doesn't like to see him fight but she hates seeing him depressed even more. Eikichi embraces her & tells her that she is a good person. Shinomi’s feelings towards Eikichi are further explored through her quest to find the pink elephant after hearing it being mentioned. Despite asking Nagisa, Yui & using the school library, she is unable to get a clear definition (all she knows is that it requires a man). However, Yui suggests that Shinomi asks Eikichi to show it to her. Refusing at first, she accepts that she can go through with whatever it is if the man is Eikichi. Blushing, she finally asks Eikichi to show her the pink elephant, but a clueless Eikichi states he has no idea what it is. |
